Q: What is a GetJar Web App?
A: GetJar Web Apps are downloadable applications that launch your website from the phone’s menu. Consumers get a nice icon on their phone. When they launch it, the browser is opened to your mobile website. With Web Apps, consumers get an easy way to access your site and you get an easy way to access millions of users at GetJar.
When you add a Web App to a product in your developer account, GetJar automatically creates small apps for Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry and Andrioid phones that contain the URL that you specify. This is provided free by GetJar to the owner of any mobile website.
The main benefit of the Web App is to make the mobile site stickier for the user, and more likely to be launched. Since we launched the Web a few months ago, our statistics show that a Mobile Site with a Web App is launched almost four times as often as a standard browser link. The second benefit of the Web App are the statistics that GetJar provides regarding handsets hitting the site, what handsets download the Web App, when the site is launched, how many times its launched, etc. These stats are available to the mobile developer within his Developer Portal on GetJar.
